Durham Toilet Rebate and Choosing the Right Toilet for you

Now the city of Durham is offering a $100 rebate for low water consumption toilets. These new 1.28 gallon flush toilets can perform just as well as the higher volume flush toilets. As posted on the Durhamnc.gov website. Any toilets that are 1.28 gallon per flush and are on the EPA list (just about all of them) qualify for a $100 rebate after January 1, 2008. One way to verify if Durham is still offering this rebate call the Durham One Call number at 919-560-1200. The EPA listing of toilets that quality are listed at this link http://www.epa.gov/watersense/pp/find_het.htm. The application for the rebate is provided here http://www.durhamnc.gov/departments/wm/pdf/toilet_rebate_application.pdf. Keep in mind that this rebate is only available for single family residences.

Choosing the Right Toilet

Before choosing a toilet there are two things to consider first the toilet needs to flush well and second the toilet needs to be available to buy in this area. You can find out more information on this by consulting your local plumber or read more up on it here.

1) Make sure to visit this pdf file which will describe the performance of the toilet under “Maximum Performance” in the below link which gives a number that attributes to the amount of solid that can be flushed down the toilet before clogging, http://www.durhamnc.gov/departments/wm/pdf/watersense_hets011209.pdf

2) You will need to find out from a local supply house what toilets are available before deciding which toilets you have to choose from. Also keep in mind that some of the duel flush model toilets require additional effort to install. The local supply houses located in Durham are Ferguson Enterprises, HD Supply, and Wilkinson Supply.
